- Aims :
- The aim of this workshop is to bring together linguists from Japan, the US and Malaysia and native speakers of languages spoken in Sabah State to investigate the socio-linguistic situation in the area and the features of indigenous languages and varieties of Malay spoken in Sabah.

After collecting the information about each consultant, each participant conducted elicitation sessions with a native speaker.
- Nomoto and Kartini conducted research on Bahasa Dusun.
- Soh and Shiohara worked on varieties of Malay spoken in Sabah. Soh is a member of the ILCAA research project titled ‘Semantics of Discourse Particles in East and Southeast Asian Languages.’. She conducted research on the discourse particle dah for the project. Shiohara is working on information structure of Malay. She focused on the usage of the passive voice construction for the research.
- Miyake is conducting research on ‘the way people tell their experience’. She collected monologs from consultants for the project.
- Shiohara is conducting a research project on language documentation of the area. She recorded narratives of indigenous languages, such as folktales and their life histories for the project; two videos recorded are now available on the website under permission of speakers. -
